How many times have you been in a hurry to get somewhere, or just been in a hurry for no good reason, and been brought almost to a stop by a car creeping along in front of you, its occupants gawking at the Northeast Kingdom countryside or at the livestock and wildlife that call it home? With the fall foliage nearing its peak there are plenty of slow moving leaf peepers out on the roads. If you can’t beat those puttering , gawking, peepers, join them. You might be surprised what you’ll see.
Like many of us who were born and raised in the Northeast Kingdom, I often find myself numbed to the beauty of the region. Too busy trying to make a living, I’m often in too much of a hurry to appreciate the beauty around me, whether it is the fall foliage, a newly fallen snow, or the first signs of spring. Often it takes a new arrival to the area, or a vacationer, to remind me of the beauty. It is through their amazement of our beautiful landscape that they are able to help people, such as myself, learn to once again see the beauty that abounds in this rural part of the world.
